Private recovery for public figures and athletes

This is confidential, one-on-one recovery coaching for people whose careers and reputations live in public view: professional athletes, entertainers, and other public figures. It is built so that getting or staying sober never becomes public, never goes on the record, and never disrupts your work. You deal directly and only with Karen Vitale, with no intake team and no file moving through an organization. She is a credentialed addiction professional with more than thirty years of personal sobriety, working privately by phone or Zoom across travel and time zones, around the obligations a public life carries.

Why public life raises the stakes

For most people, recovery is private by default. For someone in public life, privacy has to be built and protected, because the cost of exposure is measured in reputation and livelihood.

Visibility means a single rumor can travel. Media attention can turn a private decision into a story. A record in a shared system is a record that can leak or be discussed by people you never chose. And for athletes the calendar is unforgiving: a season, a training block, and the demand to perform leave little room to disappear for weeks.

None of this is a reason to wait. These are the exact conditions this work is built around.

How Karen protects your privacy

Discretion here is structural, not a promise added at the end. The way the work is set up is the way your privacy is kept.

  • You deal directly and only with Karen. There is no intake team, no assistant reading your messages, and no staff passing your file between them.
  • Nothing moves through an organization. There is no shared institutional record, no HR system, and no case file circulating among employees.
  • Access is private and flexible: sessions by phone or Zoom, scheduled around travel, training, and time zones.

This is boutique discretion, and it is something an institution cannot match. A larger program means more people who touch your information. Working with one person means one person knows, and no one else without your direction. It is the same discretion that draws executives and founders to work this way.

How the work fits a public life

Recovery is built around your real schedule and obligations, not the other way around. The point is to make getting or staying sober workable inside the life you already lead.

Some people start here while getting sober without ever stepping away, which is the alternative to rehab. Others are continuing recovery after a treatment program and want private, consistent support as they return to a public schedule. Either way, the work fits around games, shoots, tours, travel, and the visibility that comes with the job.

If you are weighing whether this fits, the first step is a private conversation, with no obligation.

What coaching is, and what it is not

Karen is a recovery coach, not a medical or psychiatric provider. Coaching does not replace medical care, detox, therapy, or psychiatric treatment.

When those are needed, Karen works alongside the other professionals already in someone’s life, with their consent. The coaching adds private structure, accountability, and a steady relationship around whatever clinical care is in place, and it never pretends to be that care.

Common questions

How do you keep this out of the public eye?

Privacy is built into how the work runs. Your inquiry comes straight to Karen, not an assistant or a queue, and she handles everything personally. There is no intake team, no shared system, and nothing about your work together is discussed with anyone without your direction. For people whose privacy is part of their livelihood, that contained, personal discretion is the entire point.

Will there be any record of our work?

Not in any shared or institutional sense. There is no HR file, no organizational database, and no case passed between staff, because there is no organization standing between you and Karen. You work with her alone, and what happens in your work stays between the two of you. Client confidentiality is a cornerstone of Karen's practice. She maintains strict privacy standards and handles all personal information with the utmost discretion.

Can we work around my season, travel, and schedule?

Yes. Sessions are by phone or Zoom and can be scheduled across time zones, early or late, and around games, training blocks, shoots, and travel. The structure is designed to fit a calendar that keeps moving, not to compete with it.

Can my manager, agent, or team be involved?

Only if you want them to be, and only with your direction. Many people keep this entirely separate from their professional circle. If it helps to include someone you trust, that can be arranged on your terms, but nothing is shared with anyone by default.
